Metronome

You can become a skillful musician…

Dear Student, Do you know what every professional musician has in common? They all spent time practicing with a metronome. Do you know why? There’s no better way to acquire an accurate sense of timing. Piano, winds, guitar, percussion, strings, on and on. If they are professional level, they used one. Now you can fine tune your ‘inner clock’ too!

The best way to use a metronome is to try matching the beat with your guitar. You can strum a chord or pluck a string with one strum per beat. Then try 2 strums per beat. When you get used to playing with the metronome, then use it with your songs starting at an extremely slow rate.

At first it may feel like the metronome is changing tempos, but if you can’t stay with the metronome, it’s not the fault of the metronome. Start slow, then gradually increase the speed.
