Guitars For Students
We no longer carry guitars, but several people have asked what brands we recommend starting with. I’ve always liked Yamaha guitars and have found some very good options.
Guitars For Folks 5′ 4″ and Up
In general, if you are over 5′ 4″ a full size guitar is best. The Yamaha C40 Complete Package is good starter guitar. It is an easy to play guitar, case, tuner and guitar instructions. I have not see the guitar instructions, but just for the guitar, case and tuner, this is an excellent price – Yamaha C40 Classical Guitar Package.
That package is with a laminated top. If you can afford a little more, you can get a solid-top guitar which sounds much fuller. My pick for a good inexpensive solid top is the Yamaha CG182C Classical Guitar. Good guitar can cost thousands of dollars.
Nylon string guitars are the easiest to play, but if you want to get a steel string acoustic. This one looks very good. It also has a solid top. Yamaha FG700S Acoustic Guitar
Here are four excellent guitars from Amazon. The first two are full size. The first is the best. It has a Solid Top. Then, the second has a laminated top and includes a case, etc. The third and fourth are 3/4 size guitars for shorter folks.
Guitars For People 5′ 3″ and Less
A 3/4 size guitar is going to work better for shorter folks and most kids. For very young kids around the ages of 5 – 7 a half size is even better. Now, sometimes people just want to play a full size anyway, but these instruments are a better fit for your body size. The best one is the Cordoba Cadete 3/4 size guitar. It has a solid top.
If finances are tight, a decent beginner 3/4 size guitar is Omega 3/4 Size Classical Acoustic Guitar. It includes the case and is an exceptional price. The finish is not perfect, so if you’re looking for a better 3/4 size guitar, I would recommend Cordoba Cadete 3/4 size Classical Guitar. This also includes the case and had a solid top, which means a better sound. Adults, in particular, would be happier playing this instrument.
Guitar For The Youngest Students
Here’s an inexpensive half size guitar – Lauren 1/2 Size Nylon String Acoustic Guitar.
For any of the nylon string guitars, watch the video on stringing a classical guitar and that should help them stay in tune.
