Help for guitar wrist pain is one of the question that was asked ina recent brief survey. Below is a video with answers to a few question like what can you do to help with guitar wrist pain?
Basically, it’s how you are holding the guitar. when your wrist is too bend it causes wrist pain. If you change how you are holding the guitar, it can make a significant difference regarding any pain in your hands.
Besides the wrist pain, a few people also asked for help in improving their singing voices. You can find some tips for improving your singing in the video,in addition to help for the guitar wrist pain.
For the record, you should not be experiencing any unusual pain when playing the guitar. It is common for the tips of your fingers to be a bit sore when first starting to play the guitar, but you should not have wrist or hand pain while playing. That means there is something wrong with your technique.
Guitar Wrist Pain And Other Questions – Video Newsletter
Watch the 6 minute video below to get ideas of how to eliminate guitar wrist pain.
These days I’ve been using an ErgoPlay Guitar Support.
If you would like to see the vocal mask blog post mentioned in the video, the Vocal Mask blog video is here.
This is where you can find the Vocal Warm Up CD mentioned in the video. As mentioned in the video above, it’s a great idea to warm up your voice before singing. This is especially true for Sunday Morning worship leaders. It takes a while for your voice to ‘wake up’ in the morning and vocalizing on the way to church is a great way to start the morning.
The exercises in the CD are excellent material for choirs to use too. In fact, the creator of the vocal warmup CD is a choir director and is quite accustomed to helping people get their voices in shape to sing.
And here is where to find the ‘How Great Thou Art’ arrangements.

What other topics would you like to see covered in the Newsletters? I hope you don’t have guitar wrist pain too, but if you do taking the simple steps outlined in the video should help.

Jean,
I may have asked you this in the past, but can’t remember. Should hand size and finger length be considered when purchasing a new acoustic guitar? I’ve had an Alvarez Regent since 1979. It’s a model 5205. Serial number starts with 78, so that must be when it was made. I don’t remember it being hard to play when I first purchased it. But, it has been hard to play for a long time. Local guitar shop has adjusted it in the past, but I never noticed much difference. Also, I’ve never taken good care of it. I joke with my wife that she just needs to buy me a Taylor for Christmas! She laughs and says, “Let’s see if you can be consistent practicing with what you have.” Trouble is, a guitar that’s hard to play is not one someone wants to practice with either. How do you suggest people find a guitar that fits them? Does arm length matter? When I see Lucianno Pizzichini on YouTube playing guitar at 7 years of age, I realize that I can’t blame short fingers for not being able to play! Still I wonder if the guitar he is playing is a full-body, small-body, if the neck is different, etc.
Thanks,
Chris Coogan

Chris, I watched a couple of his videos on youtube and the guitar he is using is a very good fit for his body size. I believe it’s a 3/4 size guitar. He certainly is talented at such a young age. It does help to play an instrument that fits you well. In general, I think if you are under 5′ 4″ a smaller guitar is going to be much easier to play. Otherwise, you might want to try going to your local music store and trying out different instruments.
In the full size range there are guitars of different sizes, for example a dreadnought body is larger than a regular acoustic body. I’m 5’7″ and a dreadnought is not as comfortable as a slightly smaller body. I also have pretty short fingers. Often when students complained to me about having short fingers when we compared hands… my fingers were always shorter than theirs. Playing with a good guitar technique can compensate for short fingers. Blessings, Jean

Dear Jean, thanks for your mail again, especcially for your voice-tips. I have big problems with singing, and I like singing and worshipping so much. I notice that people don´t like my voice when I´m trying to lead them to worship, but what can I do?
But maybe you also can help me in this way. God bless you! Johanna fram Germany

Hi Johanna, Have you asked them why they don’t like your voice? Is it too loud? Is it not in tune? If it’s just the volume, you could try singing a little softer. If it’s the intonation, maybe you could try taking some voice lessons? That certainly helped me years ago. When I first started singing it was really out of tune. I remember an old friend from junior high school years later was getting married. Her parents found me and hired me to play for the wedding.
At the house, I sang a song and my friend’s jaw dropped. She said in a surprised voice, “You sing in tune!”. We had been in a guitar class together in junior high but Junie dropped it and became a sky instructor where I continued to study the guitar through college. Taking a few years of voice lessons helped my singing. Vocalizing in the car with vocal programs is also very beneficial. Blessings, Jean
