WORSHIP CONTEST STORIES
*************************************************

Bethany Worship storiesBethany Waters send
me her picture with the
new guitar and DVDs.
Thought it would be fun
to share with you. God
is so gracious. They only
sent the contest website
to a few friends, but
somehow the email was
circulated and then
someone posted it on
their Homeschool Website.

Bethany was surprised to
receive calls and
emails from
people who heard her song.
It was also exciting to hear
that the Women’s Bible Study
at their church decided to use Bethany’s song.
She was 11.

I praise God for all the children that wrote
songs and I just couldn’t take them down.
Those that wanted to stay are still up at –
Kids Worship Contest Sep-2006

The adults are still up too. Many have CD’s and
I’ve made their names clickable so you may
visit their sites and perhaps pick up a CD for
Christmas. –
September 2006-Worship Guitar

Paulie Heath and Richard Paseck both sent me
CD’s and although I don’t usually play CD’s
very often I’ve nearly worn them both out.
Great music!

ISAAC KING, A LIFE DEDICATED TO JESUS
*************************************************

isaac-kingOne of the songs submitted
to the contest was from a
dad whose son, Isaac, just
died in September. Isaac is
20 and I wanted to honor
him and give you a chance
to know him.

We are family and I know
there are a number of you
that know what’s it’s like
to miss your loved one
during the holidays.

My friend, Sherry Conroy,
a professional editor, has
written a beautiful article about Isaac’s extraordinary
walk with Christ. You can read it and hear
Isaac’s song at the blog – jeanwelles.com

Dale King, his Dad, is offering Isaac’s CD for
a donation of any amount and it would be kind
for some of you to express your love for our
brother Dale. His contact email is at the blog.

IN CLOSING

Worship Him with all of your heart because He

Jesus was born on earth for the sole purpose
of dying at the cross for us. He loves us so
much that he paid the price for all our sins
in that one act.

Now, in Christ, death is swallowed up. Although
it’s hard to lose wonderful people like Isaac
on this side of Heaven, we will soon be
together forever, in new bodies.

You can tell Isaac that you read about him
on Jean’s blog. I’m looking forward to meeting
him, and all of you. Do you suppose we can
do a big group hug in Heaven?

loves you with all of His.

God Bless,
Jean Welles

1) Happy Valentines Day…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hope you had a wonderful Valentine’s Day. God loves you so much!
In Scripture it says:
” How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be
called the children of God!” 1John 3:1
What pictures do you see when you read that verse? I think of the
prodigal son. His Father gave him the best robe, a ring for his finger,
sandals on his feet and a big party. Every day is Valentine’s Day in
God’s eyes.
2) The Untouchables #3…
What is God doing today in Mori, India? It’s pretty exciting! The article is
now up at the blog, JeanWelles.com.. I think you’ll LOVE it.
3) Christian Guitar & Bass Convention…
I’ll be teaching at a Christian Guitar Convention in Manhattan Beach, CA
on March 4th. Phil Keaggy is performing on that night, and several teachers
will be giving classes.
I just got an email today from Life BookShops in Singapore. They said
my DVD’s, Jean Welles Worship Guitar Class, is now available from
their 9 shops. Apparently it took months for the licensing to be approved.
For those of you in Singapore, the DVD’s are now available locally in 10 stores.
Olympian Guitarist
How To be an Olympian Guitarist
(this was written during the 2004 Olympics in Athens.)
1) Burning Desire…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Okay, maybe I got a little carried away with the title, ‘How to
be an Olympian Guitarist,’ but help with technique got the
largest response from the survey last month.

I’ve been watching some of the Olympic Games and was
struck by what it takes to be a champion athlete. The first
quality I see is a Burning Desire to be the best.

To be an Olympian Guitarist for Christ you need to have a
strong desire. What are your reasons for playing? Is it to use
the guitar for leading worship in children’s church?…to lead
worship in your church or small home group? Is it because
you love God and want to express that with music?

Without a reason, or strong desire, playing guitar well will
not happen. If you have the desire and make time to play,
you will reap the rewards.

2) Good Training…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Every Olympic athlete has training. They have coaches,
they study, they watch fellow athletes. I had many private
guitar teachers, participated in many Master’s Classes,
bought every guitar album I could find. I learned something
from each teacher, book, record.
You can seek out good teachers, guitar classes, books,
training DVDs, etc. (I offer a good course for learning
worship guitar on DVD or video and also want to help
you through these Newsletters!)
Good technique will make a big difference in how easy
it is for you play. Look how easy the trained gymnasts,
swimmers, runners, etc., make it look.
3) Practice, Practice, Practice…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Okay, you have a burning desire and have access to good
training materials. Those Olympic athletes get good because
they practice …a lot.

” I don’t have time to practice!,” said a student in one of my
worship guitar classes. One of the other students answered
him, “Practice? It’s my worship time!”

This woman discovered the joy of making her practice time
a worship time. She told him that her morning worship, with
the guitar, gave her the strength for each day.

So this is where I suggest veering off from the ‘Olympian Model.’
Don’t just practice, practice, practice…but worship. Focus your
heart and worship on Him. Ask Him to help you in your playing.

One way to ‘practice’ in your ‘worship time’ is to isolate any difficult
chord changes and play them at least 20 times. Keep relaxed,
focused and confident that you can get it. For example, change
20 times between D and G, or D and Bm, or whatever.

4) C Scales…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Since there were so many requests for scales in the survey,
here are a couple C scales that you can practice.
The music is in both musical notes and tab. You can find it here.
Click to download the music
5) Support…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Listening to the various Olympian athlete’s stories it’s easy
to see that they had support. It was from parents, coaches,
countries, etc. There are two points I’d like to make here.

One, you have the best supportive Father in the Universe.
The One that created it!

Two, think of how you can support the musical efforts of
your kids, friends, etc.

6) Compete…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Meanwhile, as you get comfortable playing, do play for
others. You can’t put a price on leading others into worship.
And the metals? Only GOLD.
My friend, for all your service to the King, you’ll receive the
Gold Crown of life, also called the crown of glory, or
righteousness. And this one lasts forever!
Praise Him with all your heart, because He loves you with
all of His!
Love & Blessings in the LORD,
Jean Welles
