Daniel 2:20-22 Set To Music

October 21, 2021 By admin 10 Comments

Have you ever been asked to memorize Scripture or tried to memorize Scripture? I’m in a Bible Study called Community Bible Study and this year we are studying the book of Daniel. I LOVE the book of Daniel. It’s so refreshing to see a young man who continued to be faithful to God despite being held captive in a foreign country.

Daniel was able to interpret the dream that foretold of the future kingdoms to come. The words in Daniel 2:20-22 are words of praise Daniel spoke when God revealed the dream and its meaning to him. This was our first memory verse and I loved making it into a song.

The song is in the key of A and starts with a little decending bass run. There are many way to write a song. I talk about several of them in the Music Theory for Guitar lessons. I posted a lesson on 4 Ways to Change a Song that you might enjoy watching.

Memorizing Scripture is a wonderful practice and putting songs to music make it easier to remember. I’m planning on putting several of the books of the Bible to music…at least the teaching parts.

Guitar Tuners

June 15, 2016 By admin Leave a Comment

Headstock tuners are, in my opinion, the current best guitar tuners in the marketplace. What I like about them is that you can accurately tune your guitar even in a noisy environment. The sound based tuners are affected by any loud noises, including noisy birds outside!

Here’s a short video about the two guitar tuners that we carry and the difference between them. Both guitar tuners are available at the bottom of this page. We used to carry the Intellitouch Tuner but they are no longer made. Instead, we have the Center Pitch that even includes a metronome.

I remember the first time I tuned my guitar at the same time the drummer was pounding his drums. I could still tune without any problems. Just a week ago, I was tuning before the church service at the same time as the bass player. We were literally sitting next to each other, but could both easily tune out instruments at the same time. He has a headstock tuner too.

Features of the Center Pitch CP10 Guitar Tuners:

  1. Larger Screen
  2. Most Flexible Viewer
  3. Can be use to tune stringed instruments but also woodwind and brass instruments.
  4. Instruments Can Be Tuned from A 410 Hz – 450 Hz
  5. Includes a very flexible metronome.

Clip-on Guitar Tuners Feature

  1. Adjustable
  2. Specific Tuning Options for Guitar, Violin, Uke, & Bass
  3. Inexpensive Guitar Tuner
  4. Only A 440 is Available, Which is the Standard Tuning.

I personally like to have both in my guitar case. Then if one of the batteries is dead, there is always a 2nd tuner to use.

Center Pitch CP10 Tuner/Metronome

The CP10 tuner finds the pitch by the vibration of the instrument, even in a very noisy room. Works on any instrument with a headstock, like a guitar, bass, violin, banjo, uke, etc. Unlike the tuner below, it can be set at different frequencies than the standard A = 440. Doubles as a stand alone metronome.
Sale Price $29.95 – No longer manufactured. 🙁

Clip-on Guitar TunersClip-on Digital Guitar Tuner

The Clip-on LCD Digital Chromatic Electronic Guitar Tuner has setting for chromatic tuning, guitar, bass, violin, and tuning a ukulele.  A battery is included with the tuner.
Sale Price $10.50

God of Wonders

December 28, 2015 By admin Leave a Comment

Stars-UniverseGod of Wonders is the name of a beautiful song. The words of the song were inspired by the Psalms. But, just looking at this beautiful world is enough inspiration to write a song about the wonderful God that created the heavens and earth.

The song starts with talking about the Lord of all creation. In the book of Genesis we learn that the world was created by God’s Words. In the New Testament, we learn that Jesus is the Word of God.

The chorus of the song says:

God of wonders, beyond our galaxy
You are holy, holy
The universe declares Your majesty
You are holy, holy

Did you know that the sun is a million times bigger than the size of the earth? It’s BIG! 960,000 earths could fit inside the sun!

Although it’s HUGE to us, our sun is not that large compared to other stars. Betelgeuse is twice the size of the earth’s orbit around the sun! The largest star found to date is Canis Majoris. If the earth were a golf ball, in comparison it would be the height of Mount Everest.

There’s a wonderful video by Lou Giglio talking about God’s Greatness. I’ve posted it at my other blog – How Great Is Our God

The video points out first the magnitude of the heavens, then turns around to the infinite wonder of how God has made us. Our bodies have 75 trillion cells. Each cell has a 6 foot long DNA strand with a 3 billion character description. There is enough DNA in our bodies to go to the moon and back 178,000 times!

God of Wonders is one of the songs taught in our JW Worship Guitar Class lessons. The more you understand how wonderful God is, the more you’ll want to Worship Him! He has wonderful plans for your life too!

Story Behind Silent Night

December 22, 2015 By admin Leave a Comment

christmas-sceneDid you know that the song ‘Silent Night‘ was actually written for and on the guitar? It was written in 1816 by Father Josef Mohr and Franz Gruber. I’ve always LOVED the story of how this song was originally composed.

Imagine that you lived in a small town in Austria and the organ broke right before one of the most important Christian Holidays, Christmas. The snow was so thick that the organ repairman couldn’t come to fix it. Sometimes our biggest blessings come in times of difficult trials!

Father Joseph had written a beautiful  poem and shared the lyrics with the organist, Franz Gruber. Inspired by the words, he set the lyrics to the melody that we sing today, Silent Night. That night, it was introduced to the world with just the guitar accompaniment.

Today, this song that had such humble beginnings, is now sung in over 300 languages. Yes… that’s over THREE hundred languages! I’m sure Father Mohr and Franz could have never imagined in their wildest dreams how many millions and perhaps billions of people have loved singing their simple and beautiful song!

There’s a hidden message for each one of us in this story. You never know how the ‘little’ thing you do today for God may touch and bless people in ways that you could never imagine!

One of my brothers produces Christian materials for Children and his materials are being translated into many languages. Every time we talk, I hear more stories of how people are being blessed with his work.

Here’s a simple arrangement of the song for you to play.

Silent Night – On Guitar

This is one of the songs included in our ‘Easy Christmas Songs For Guitar‘ program. You can find out more about that program here.

There is also a form to download the music to ‘Silent Night’ free.

Christmas Day celebrates one of the two most important days in human history! My favorite day is Easter. Two pivotal days are the Birth and Resurrection of Christ!
