New Guitar Course

A New Course
*************************************************
Would you be interested in learning to read notes
on the guitar and in learning music theory too? I’m
thinking of producing a 17 week guitar course.

Many of you have expressed a desire to learn more
about music theory. But it’s easier to understand
it if you actually know the notes on the guitar.

Fred Noad’s book is an excellent book for learning
to read notes, but it’s not in a video format. I
think it’s easier to learn by hearing and seeing
the lessons. Plus, I like teaching with a Christian
perspective.

Live near Los Angeles? Am thinking of offering the
material in a class setting as well as over the Internet.

To make it affordable, was thinking of offering
the online class for $5 a lesson… or less.
Let me know if you are interested.

WORSHIP CONTEST

Congratulations to our winners Hannah Covington and
Kriya Herzog (Crow). Their guitars and lessons have
been sent. Thanks to all the song writers and
all of you who participated.

In the storms of life, Jesus is the only Solid Rock.
We’re experiencing storms this week in Southern
California. We even had a tornado yesterday, rare
for this area. We are well acquainted with
earthquakes, but tornados are rare.

When the rains stopped for a few hours yesterday,
looking out the window you could see massive white
clouds with brilliant rays of the sun beaming through.
Beautiful!

Worship Him with all of you heart, because He
loves you with all of His!

God Bless,

A NEW YEAR
*************************************************
There is something nice about starting a ‘New Year.’
It’s a good time to ‘turn a new page’ in your life.
What would you like to change? How can we be more
like Christ? How can we be more thankful?
I posted a blog on ‘Goals for the New Year.’

WORSHIP CONTEST

The contest ends at midnight, Jan 9th, PST. Thanks
for all of the people who shared their songs with
us and for all of you who have participated with

FROM YOU
*************************************************
I got this precious email from Wendy Young in
South Africa.

“Jean, my 8 year old has watched the DVD all day
and mastered the first lesson. He was particularly
touched with the “getting in tune with God” puppet
skit at the end and has asked me to write out the
prayer for him as he says he needs help to stop
doing “naughty” things.

Thank you for this tool to use in my home,
I pray God blesses you and your ministry
Wendy”

Don’t you just love the heart of this young boy?
The Worship Guitar Class for Kids program ends
with a gospel invitation through a puppet skit.

Doreen is an accomplished organist/pianist. She
writes:

“Learning to play guitar has been such a blessing.
It got me singing and worshiping every day at home.
It’s really helped me draw nearer to the Lord.

You are a gifted teacher and your newsletters, tips
and videos have helped so much. I’m praising the
Lord for the gift He’s given us all through you.

With sincere appreciation,
Doreen”

I LOVED reading that she’s singing and worshipping
every day at home! Our God saved us to be in
relationship with HIM. How pleased He must be
when we make Him central in our lives!

*************************************************
RELAX
*************************************************
Yeas ago I went to a Master’s Class where the
teacher listened to each student, then had them play
their pieces again with a more relaxed face.

The results were amazing. Music in an expression
of your inner soul and when the excess tension is
gone, the music can come out more freely.

Relaxing your face helps you to relax your shoulders,
which helps your to relax your hands. You do need
energy for each pluck or strum, but the hands should be
relaxed between each pluck, strum or chord change.

We are God’s ‘instruments.’ He has a wonderful song
to sing through our lives. I love this quote from
Beth Moore, “When we trust our lives to the unseen
but ever-present God, He will write our lives into
His story and every last one of them will be a great
read. With a grand ending.”

Worship Him with all of you heart, because He
loves you with all of His!

We’ve had a lot of fires in Califonia. One of my
dear friends wrote:

“On Saturday, as I walked out of my neighborhood
supermarket, I looked up to the hills and froze in my
tracks.  Angry clouds of smoke hundreds of feet high
were shooting into the sky. In an instant, I was struck
about how little control we have in the face of a
natural force of this proportion and how all those
things we find security in — the order of our lives,
our homes, our possessions, our jobs, the stuff of
daily life — could disappear in an instant.”

Marion’s home was spared, and her conclusions are so
true. The things around us can change in an instant.
God does not change. He is the only ROCK we can find
shelter in when the storms of life come.

Worship Him with all your heart because He loves you
with all of His!

Love in Jesus,
Jean Welles

How To Get A Clean Note

Header

Blessings in His Matchless Name! I hope all is going well with you, my dear brothers and sisters in Christ.

In a recent survey, an number of you wanted tips on getting a clear sound on your guitars. I’ve posted an article at the blog.

1. Trim your left-hand fingernails. If you have nails it’s impossible to hold the strings down cleanly.

2. Hold a string down with the tip, or pad, of your finger right behind the frets. If you hold a string down on top of a fret it can produce a muffled tone. If you hold down a string too far from the fret it can produce a buzzing sound. Stay on the tips of your fingers and hold each string firmly, as close to the frets as you can.

The rest is here – http://jeanwelles.com/115/getting-clean-notes-on-your-guitar/

CHEA

A Deer and Cat Video

Header

This is a video of a young cat who is determined to befriend a skittish young dear. It’s sure to make you smile. It’s posted at the blog, JeanWelles.com

One day, all of God’s creation will only exhibit love.

Website Update

We’ve updated the look of WorshipGuitarClass.com. I believe it’s much easier to navigate and is completely searchable. There are a number of previous Newsletters posted and more will be added.

Would love your feedback and if you discover any non-working links, let us know.

Reflecting on the deer and cat video makes me think of the many languages God has created. Not only are there thousands of dialects humans speak, but there are emotional languages that is understood and shared with man and animals like the loving gestures of that cat.

i’m sure ants must have computer chips. It’s amazing how with the brief touch of antennas they know exactly where that honey jar is located.

How about our bodies? Then there is a complex cell language that goes on inside our bodies. Our God is infinitely AMAZING.

Love Him with all of your heart because He loves you with all of HIS!

In His Love,

Jean Welles
