Guardame Las Vacas

December 4, 2010 By admin Leave a Comment

‘Guardame Las Vacas’ is a fun Renaissance Lute solo that included in both our ‘Guitar Music Theory Course‘, book with videos, and the ‘Reading Notes on Your Guitar’ book. It a lovely piece to play. Here is a video for your listening enjoyment. It’s a theme with variations. The song has a repeating pattern of 8 measures. This is one of the common ways to write music.

This is one of the songs that is included on the DVD of the Guitar Music Theory Course. Just noticed that ‘Unfailing Love’ is on the last screen. It’s the next song in the course. I had a blast writing several new worship songs for that course, showing different ways to make song arrangements.

Giving Thanks

November 26, 2010 By admin 1 Comment

Giving Thanks

Thanksgiving is a holiday in the US that was started by Abraham Lincoln in 1863. It was a day to thank God for preserving the pilgrims in 1621. They had nearly died in an incredibly cold winter. When the harvest finally came in, they chose the last Thursday in November to be a day of great feasting and thanks.

God deserves thanks for all He has done for us. In the Bible it says:

“O give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; For His lovingkindness is everlasting.” Ch 16-34

“Enter His gates with thanksgiving And His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him, bless His name.” Psa 100:4

“Through Him then, let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that give thanks to His name.” Hebrew 13:5

We can give Him thanks every day for His lovingkindness towards us. Singing worship songs to Him on your guitar is a special way to give Him praise and thanks.

I’ve read the end of the Good Book, and there are some pretty dark days ahead for this world. Fortunately, the ending is Glorious and lasts for eternity. Be strong and keep giving thanks, even when it is a sacrifice. Great days are ahead that will make these pale dimly in the past.

How To Break Through a Guitar Playing Wall

October 15, 2010 By admin 11 Comments

Bar ChordsWhat do you do when your guitar playing seems to hit a wall? Are there songs that seem too hard to play? For many people bar chords seem too difficult to play. Never give up!

One of my friends mentioned to me that she had been playing the guitar for many years, but avoided playing all bar chords. She said that they were too hard to play. When I asked her how many hours in total she actually had tried to play them, she admitted it was just a couple hours!

I challenged her to ‘try’ to play them for just 5 – 10 minutes a day. If you don’t try, then you definitely will never succeed. The exciting thing that happens is your hand will get stronger. It’s like working out in a gym.

Let me back up and also say, if bar chords are your ‘wall’, you might want to have your guitar checked out. It may be too hard to play, period. There are some instruments with unusually high ‘action’ and those are hard to play. The action is the distance from the string to the neck. If the guitar is not the problem, with practice the bar chords will eventually became very easy to play.

Amazing Grace Lesson

Amazing Grace Lesson3 arrangements of Amazing Grace

Here is a video teaching you how to play three arrangements of this popular hymn. Amazing Grace was written by John Newton. Mr. Newton had been a slave trader, but God got a hold of his heart. In the midst of a storm in the open seas, John prayed and committed his life to Christ. He became a well known preacher and wrote this beautiful song, Amazing Grace. The first arrangement is super easy for beginner guitar players and it progresses to the third arrangement which is great for players with more experience.

It’s easier to learn a song while following the music. To get a copy of the music, words and chord charts just fill in the form below and it will be immediately emailed to you. Hope you enjoy the lesson!
